Responsibilities

Conduct major repairs and rebuilds of diesel engines, transmissions, and hydraulic pumps for heavy equipment such as backhoes and wheel loaders.
Plan and execute comprehensive maintenance schedules, including routine servicing, lubrication, and safety inspections to prevent breakdowns.
Cleaning, lubricating, and conducting routine services on heavy-duty vehicles and machine attachments such as hydraulic horse pipes, blades, and side booms.
Inspect engines, gearboxes, hydraulics, electrical systems, tyres, and frames.
Monitoring equipment performance and troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults.
Keep accurate maintenance records including up-to-date tyre register.
Apply technical knowledge and cost-awareness to improve workshop efficiency and reliability.
Monitor materials and supplies required for machine operation.
Suggest and implement improvements to enhance machine performance, productivity, and safety.

Competencies and Attributes.

In-depth knowledge of diesel engines and heavy construction machinery, including dozers, backhoes, wheel loaders, graders and excavators.
Demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair complex mechanical and hydraulic systems.
Accurate in maintaining maintenance records.
Attention to Detail.

Qualifications

Diploma in construction plant mechanics, automotive engineering, or related field from a recognized institution. Government Trade Test (GTT) certification is a strong advantage.
Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience working as a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic.
Mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and ability to read and interpret technical manuals and blueprints.
Reliable, team-oriented, and able to work independently
